An Entertaining Morning Walk

I set out for an early walk
to feel the morning air.
I felt like hiking from the start
to "all points everywhere".

To add amusement to my stroll,
I wore my FM phones,
and listened to some classic rock
from the Zombies to the Stones.

A short way through my morning quest,
I heard a favorite song.
between the music and fresh air,
I kept pace right along.

A trio of my younger selves
assembled from behind,
which made a fun excursion
with this figment of my mind.

The sights along the trail were filled
with wild and rural charm;
a wheat field, cows and horses,
and two silos on a farm.

The forest, field and farm were bordered
by a split rail fence;
the road forked off to unknown places,
with airs of suspense.

The trees and field were rife with sparrows,
cardinals, jays, and crows;
a cawing, singing aviary
of spirited echoes!

Along the walk, some neighbors waved
while passing in their car,
and others stopped for friendly banter,
coming from afar.

An old dog ambled down a drive

to meet me on the road.
We briefly exchanged warm "Hellos",
then up the drive he strode.

Halfway through my walk, I faltered,
running low on steam.
The "boys" assured me I'd get back
by working as a team!

I plodded back, I made the trek;
home's just around the bend.
My spectres silenced suddenly,
and vanished near the end!

It's been well said in many ways,
from many a citation:
"It's amazing what's accomplished
when you use your imagination!"
