Great North Circuit

Great North Circuit
(A Marathon Cycle Ride)

Great North Circuit to and from Inverness
Via John O Groats Ullapool and Loch Ness.
You can take a bus or train or car if you like
But we're gonna do it all on our push byke
I'm aching in parts I didn't know could feel
My gaze fixed just ahead of my front wheel
And I can feel the agony I can feel the pain
As my energy passes through my bike chain

I can see that summit creeping slowly near
As I slip into my lowest lower derailleur gear
Pedals just seem to whirl round and round
As we slowly cover that rising ground
On the Great North circuit on our way
We've got to cover a hundred miles a day
Some times a few mile more, but never less
Cycling in a circle to and from Bonny Inverness ,

Up hills down dales winding roads and lanes
Starting to feel at ease with my aches and pains
All this effort is worth it to support the cause
For those broken soldiers fighting mental wars
Don't  even have the energy to curse and swear
My mind just fixed on me getting there
Missing that beautiful scenery as I ride
My eyes firmly fixed  on the leader's backside

As the miles pass I start to enjoy it more
Even feeling easier with my saddle sore
Great North Circuit nearly broke my heart
I felt every single mile from finish to start
Beautiful Scotland is a place that I like
But next time I won't be riding my bike.
I'll just take a bus or a car or even a train
See miles pass and remember the pain
