Aitches

Oh we don't use aitches in ‘ull,
That unaspirated letter,
No, we don't use aitches in ‘ull
We think without Is better.
There's many a man
Has uttered his thanks
As he's clawed his way
Through society's ranks,
And he's started eating lunch
When we eat our dinner,
And he's worked on his speech
So his vowels are thinner,
His East Riding accent
Isn't quite so broad
And he eats at places that
He couldn't previously afford,
But sometimes, unconsciously
His social progress is stopped
As without thinking
The odd aitch is dropped,
And his humble roots are
Suddenly revealed
In spite of the efforts
He's made to conceal,
‘cos we don't use aitches in ‘ull
That unaspirated letter,
No, we don't use aitches in ‘ull,
We think without is better.
