What do you wish for?
A question once asked of me
What are your dreams and aspirations?
And to be honest I couldn't find an answer
On that particular day
Since then I've given much thought
To the profoundness of this question's complexity
I had to dig deeply
To answer honestly!
Indeed! What do I wish for?
I wish I could find the words!
I'm afraid to give the answer
Because it's something not easily achieved!
Wishes are unspoken dreams
A touching of our deepest truths
Isn't that what dreams are for
Something in which to believe?
So in answer to your question
I will now reply, pick up my pen
With a slow spreading smile
Pause a while to collect my thoughts and then:
I wish to soar above red-golden clouds
As the sun sets below the horizon
I wish to fly free
Spread my wings
Allow the winds to take me
I wish to walk the valleys and dales
See the colours surrounding me
Unfettered by all constraint
Leave behind the golden cage
And throw away the key
I wish to run amidst buttercup filled meadows
Let the wind stream through my hair
I wish to lie amongst dew wet grass
And watch the stars at night
Let my heart release and know I'm safe
That everything will turn out right
I wish to splash in streams of water
Feel the coolness of the water
rippling against my naked skin
I wish to sit awhile just listening
Allowing things to be
I wish to lie beside you
Let the sun warm our upturned face
Stand within a waterfalls mists
Not worry about fate's nasty turns and twists
I wish to sit and just listen to birds
Nestled safely in tall tree tops
Feel the magic and mystery of sun dappled woods
Oh! If only I could!
I wish only to sit awhile with you
Looking out over the lavender purple hills
Feel the warmth of your arms about me
Together lost in our dreams and fantasy
I wish for so many things
Beauty, magical and so achievable in their simplicity
But sadly these are only dreams and wishes
They are not my reality!
