TO REACH THE SUMMIT

As a child I lay weeping
Monsters in my room creeping
My pet turtle was lost
Searched for days
It was just a dollar cost
But it was my turtle
My sister bought a Lizard
OK, a chameleon
Not worth near a million
Years later: I grew up
Mom bought me a tiny pup
There on my bed he lay sleeping
Monsters in my bedroom creeping
One day in the creek I found a frog
Playing I lost it in the fog
My puppy was now a dog
I always worried about the turtle lost
It had nothing to do with the cost
Then one day in a garage sale
I'm getting close to the end of the tale
My childhood bed was sold almost free
The lady said to me, "Ever own a turtle?"
Wedged inside a hole the turtle dried be
And there solved the mystery
For how could a turtle run away
And why would my turtle not want to stay
We took my turtle outside made him a grave
Barney my pup grown up and I would slave
No longer would I worry about Monsters creeping
My turtle guarded my bed as I was sleeping
Someday I will buy me a large snake
That will keep all the monsters in my room awake
Soon enough it will be Halloween
My snake hiding finding all those monsters unseen
But kids if you come to my house to, "Trick and Treat!"
I will tell you about my first turtle ain't that neat
Some say this old man is still just a kid
Probably because from me that turtle hid
