This is written with the full awareness that Halloween is a time of fun and games for many families and brings people together. It also has other connotations and meaning for those who wish to celebrate the deeper meanings behind Halloween, which I won't go into because most of us know the true meaning of Halloween. I state within my poem about children doing trick or treat, and will say that here in England, there are laws now which makes it harder for people to continue taking their children knocking on doors due the issue of child safety! Something which shows the state of the world we live in that we have to be mindful of such things! Still Halloween is a night of acknowledgement of the darker side of things and as such must be remembered in what form people wish to choose to celebrate it.
A time of magic
A time of tricks,
fun and mischief
A time still, for some, of ancient belief
Halloween is here
Once a time where people felt deep fear
But now they've turned it round
And made it into a playground
A time for jollity, trick or treat
Spooks, ghouls, skeletons, and being bewitched
A night of bobbing apples, Jack O' Lantern,
Painted faces and costumes stitched
Forgotten now the deep history
Forgotten the magic that once lay across this land
Forgotten now the power behind the rituals
Now it's just a time for laughter and yearly habituals
Gone now the worship of the Goddess,
Gone now the acknowledgment of her power
Gone now the respect that once was held
Gone now the magic spells
Now it's just confined to silly games
Egg splattered windows and toilet papered lawns
Now its just parents walking kids round the streets
Scaring residents into bringing out their bowls of sweets
Trick or treat, give us your sweets
Or else we'll wreak our dire revenge upon you
Give us your sweets!
Or it'll be the last thing you do!
