The Lancean Specificity

Tiger

a sonnet for a fellow sonneteer called Shradnikov

With a tiger in his tank and a Dodge in his garage
But winter in his heart and spectacles on his nose
Heaven knows it took awhile to see him through his camouflage
To spy and scry his specificities his these from those
Of other swingers circa 1965 as he remains

Cigarettes Kool temper hot outside warm inside not
Moving like a cat and purring like that too

Though missing in action out of college that year
His journey of a lifetime led him straight home for his pains
Where every now and then somebody sees him reappear
When I have seen them try then to wash away his stains
The rusty trail of blood he left remembered when it rains

Moving like a cat and purring like that too
Too late when you see tiger eyes devouring you
