What is the point?
Who am I saving
Them for?
You?
Me?
Us?
History?
Herstory?
Posterity?
I have no
Children,
Nor will I.
Others have
Them
For me.
All of Humanity
Is my child.
The history
Of the world
Is my
Herstory.
I know because
I've seen
Words live
Past their
Makers
And continue
To touch lives
Long past
And since.
I've decided
That the
Ten thousand
Ancestors who
Made love
To make me
Deserve
Some legacy.
So I will
Write poetry
And stories,
So I will
Be kind to
Others,
And leave
My fingerprint
On their hearts
My ideas
In their minds,
And sow
My spirit
Into all that
I do,
For others,
My humanity,
To do more
Than I ever
Dared to dream,
And I know
That I dream
Big,
You will dream
Bigger.
But in order
To start
Somewhere,
I will start
With saving
My memories,
Because children
Need to know
Where they came
From,
And though
None will
Be of my genes,
They will be
Born
Of my spirit.
