'' We're Different Not Disabled ''
If you class yourself as ‘'NORMAL''
does that make you aware,
that all of us are different,
can you say you really care.
We didn't ask to be this way,
but we have a right to life,
we work and laugh the same as you,
none of us look for strife,
Some of us are born this way,
others by sheer chance,
by treating us all as equals,
our lives you will enhance.
If you're in our company,
this should hold no fear,
you can talk to us directly,
yes, some of us can hear.
Try not to be judgemental,
there's more to life than wealth,
if we had the chance to choose,
we'd rather have good health.
We have partners, some have children,
the mortgage and the stress,
we live our lives the same as you,
our problems aren't any less.
We want to go out to our work,
to socialise and play,
pay our dues the way you do,
is there any other way.
Yet when we try to integrate,
there'll always be the clown,
who looks at you and comments,
'' they should have that put down ''
Not one of us are perfect,
we all have various flaws,
so think about the damage,
remarks like that can cause.
Some say we've got it easy,
we come out on top,
if you really think that way,
with you we'd gladly swap.
Just try to be indifferent,
we do not ask for favours,
being treated as an equal,
is what a human being savours.
Some maybe in a wheelchair,
others can barely walk,
some are blind and infirm,
there are those who can't hear or talk.
Some may have problems mentally,
they must be made aware,
that if they want to talk of them,
there will be those who care.
Disabilities come to us,
in many shapes and sizes,
if you don't accept this,
you wont win any prizes.
This is true of life itself,
that's why we're all unique,
imagine if we were all the same,
we'd have our troubles to seek.
If you show some consideration,
to all others you will find,
not only does it cleanse the soul,
it will help improve your mind.
We all have problems of our own,
we all know that is true,
regardless of your troubles,
we wont look down on you.
Try to be considerate,
none of us are all seeing,
underneath we're all the same,
a living Human Being.
Why don't you get to know us,
then get your questions tabled,
our answer to you all will be,
‘' We're Different Not Disabled''.
