That my happiness
Hangs on…
Long-lasting love
Friendships
Being with people
In this world…
So that I can just
Be happy
Without all that
“Stuff.”
Hating the isolation
Of art off in
Some studio
Only hastens it.
I abandon the idea
That being
Here and now
Is more important
Than the stories
And adventures
Awaiting me
In the other worlds…
Because that idea
Doesn't bring me
Closer to anyone.
I don't understand
These fickle
Americans,
Who can like
Or not on a whim
And dispose
Of family,
Friends and lovers
On a whim.
When I love you,
It is eternally
No matter what
You do or don't do.
I will sit in a crowd
But I will walk
In the other worlds.
I will draw in this world
But be lost to it.
I am abandoning
The ideas
That no longer
Seem
To be true.
