Return home to me

Only dreams of sweet surrender finds the peace I'm searching for
when the wheels of time have rested and await the coming day
this twilight time of happiness as my children's laughter echoes
is now all that's left of yesterday as their laughter fades away.

The daylight brings only memories of how dark the nights become
when the loneliness and heartache is sometimes hard to bare
there is no one to call out to when the nightmares are so scary
only the emptiness and silence are all that's waiting there.

Many battles have I witnessed and the scars remain with me
shattered bits of my life lay in lands far and wide
the hope life once gave me now wounded and bleeding
and the man that I was yesterday, needs a refuge to hide.

So my dreams are all that's now left to live on for
the reality of life has become a sad place to be
always there's hope that my wounds will stop bleeding
and the laughter of children will return home to me.
