EACH MILE
Each mile
Brings me closer
To a familiar place.
A place I departed
Many years ago.
Each curve,
Every bend
In the road
Is a stone's
Throw nearer
To where life began.
I gaze through the windscreen
At the darkening sky
And wonder
How life would have been
Should I never have ventured
Far from this place.
Recognition
Spreads before me
As though I had been here
Only yesterday.
Trees are taller,
Roads seem narrower,
And yet
I remember.
I remember
Days blending into weeks
Over summers that never ended.
It never rained.
The sky was radiant blue and
Here I fondly recall
Childhood happiness.
