Transcendental Sonnet #1481: Hope Breaking Through

Eating just brown rice and lentils
I must invest in fundamentals
Retreating from incidentals
(Dental care say or maybe glasses)
Cut by elephants and asses
Breaking hope in the hearts of the poor

A pound of flesh! The rich want more
Sacrifice for their austerity
By which the rich forget you and me
But having been done to now we do

And by degrees and day by day
Sooner or later the blind may see
How revolution now underway
Is our hope breaking but breaking through
