When the Only Way Out is In

for Michael Dickel

Not saying heavy smoker never wanting to sound heavyset
Set in his ways or something for always obsessed with never getting fat
Or ever getting anywhere when the only way out is in
But then again nowhere getting somewhere through the end about to begin
Round and round in a hurry never gaining a pound through worry
Losing it all then after all would make many an old cat feel like that
But this one never met a cigarette he could say no to yet

That is if someone has an extra one for one old lonely cat
That not knowing better might by letter look to be quite a lot like me
Learning the hard way losing it all is his only way to win
So who only smokes according to the rate of your generosity
Only if someone has an extra one for one old cat like that
But someone who has an extra one or two or three should save them for he
Who though he has no money still can be pretty funny at times

As the clock in the tower chimes out the hour so his poetry rhymes
In lonely duty to beauty when the only way out is in
