LIKE an EAGLE

Like an Eagle he soared high
and swiftly dove from the sky
His pry knew not why, but
quickly they would die

He rode a painted pony
as swift as an eagle in the sky
He was known throughout this land
as a small, powerful red man and in his
eye was rightfully defending his homeland

His named struck fear in the hearts of the white man
He plundered and killed throughout the southwestern land
He was an Apache and fought to the end
His name was Goyathlay, better known in the fearful hearts
of the white man as…
Geronimo!

Note: I visited Geronimo’s grave site at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma back in 1999.
I understand that back in the late 1800’s he was considered to be a formable enemy; but I think he was a very proud and historical notable individual. I found his grave site to be in complete disarray, weeds knee deep, fence in shambles and his tombstone dirty and unattended. I thought these conditions reflected badly on the military at Ft. Sill.   Geronimo died in the custody of the military, and  in my opinion; I think the military have an obligation to maintain the grave site with dignity. I do not know the condition of the grave site today.
