My favorite boardwalk didn't survive the mega-storm Sandy
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY
NOTE:
I was just feeling a little home sick and thinking back on youthful summer
days growing up in New Jersey. I know, I know NJ has the reputation
of oil refineries and toll booths, and not being such a great state -- always in
big shadow of New York.
I just want to tell you there is lots there, more then the pollution, smog,
and traffic congestion. There are wonderful beaches and boardwalks all along the coast
And Southwest Jersey has some of the prettiest farm land I have seen.
So below, even though its not a poem, these are my memories:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some people I know go to the beach or they may even go to the sea,
but for all who know of New Jersey -- we always go "down to the shore".
Whether it be Asbury Park, Point Pleasent, Atlantic City, or my favorite,
Seaside Heights the fun was from early morning to way late at night.
After all day of playing in the sand, or dipping into the crashing surf,
its then time as the sun dips down for fun to abound on the boardwalk.
The game booths all open with wonderful prizes, that no one ever wins,
the rides all start up with beautiful lights and music is alive in the air.
My favorite is the giant big swing, that goes round and round while
lifting you up -- it made me feel as if I was flying up high in the sky.
But then much to my surprise, the sky lights up with bundles of colors and loud
booming sounds as the splendor of fireworks showering down and all around!!
