The Price of Gas...... Coincidence or Consequence?

That's right folks. We are approaching the inevitable once again. Some might say it's the point
of no return but that would be an inappropriate assessment due to the fact that we've been recent witnesses of this dreaded phenomenon. This is when an economic nightmare becomes reality and when trips to the pump become life altering decisions producing unwarranted stress and anxiety.

The price of gas has become a frequent topic of discussion for most Americans, especially in '07 and '08 when it soared to record prices that averaged between 4 and 5 dollars per gallon. With the desensitization of the American public to Washington politics coupled with oil and gas shortage propaganda to promote artificial scarcity, it is not surprising that after all these years we have not stopped blaming the Saudis, OPEC, the Venezuelans or whoever else but I think that it may be time that we started focusing our attention a lot closer to home. I no longer choose to ignore the fact that something wreaks of impropriety. I no longer choose to accept or entertain the notion of the fault being solely that of outside influences. In short, it would not shock me what so ever if the culprits that are most responsible are our own federal and local governments.

For instance, why is it that throughout 2007 on into the 2008 presidential election the price of gas was one of the hallmarks of discussion but after the race was determined the price fell at record pace? It went from making headlines to not a peep from anyone concerning the reason why it fell to such a low price which I and many others found quite disturbing. I've often heard that the higher price before election time and the lower price during is business as usual, it's the American way. Just like the seasonal fluctuations that we see, especially during holidays or specific social events. Appallingly, consumers are also railroaded or taken advantage of at the pump on both the state and local level with price gouging during emergent and catastrophic situations. And of course without mentioning, we all know that gas is usually higher near interstates which I also find a bit unnerving.

Over all, the point that I'm driving towards is that now that the election is over the price will rise, as it usually does and we will soon feel another economic pinch. Oil companies will continue to see record profits, the Federal Reserve, who plays a big hand in this whole mess, will continue to create money out of thin air causing inflation and deflation of the dollar without restraint or regulation and tax payers will continue to, excuse the expression, take it in the rear.

This vicious cycle and this psychosis that we all suffer from is the result of many isms. We are all victims of Americanism in its darkest form, some more so than others. Beneath this banner lies even darker negativisms; some of those for example are racism, neo-colonialism, classism, supremacism, imperialism (better known as globalism) welfarism, gangsterism, separatism etc. but one thing that is seldom practiced or encouraged now days is individualism. America in its present state exists under the thumb of corporatism. The plutocrats that possess these corporate powers and that have a strong hold over the entire nation do so solely, exclusively and arbitrarily under government approval and with government authority, suffocating the true democratic energy and potential of the American experiment. The central bank and its offshore cohorts that control our politics, pulling the strings of spineless and corrupt politicians, is a "legal" all though unconstitutional banking cartel in cahoots with the government, illustrating the extent of American hypocrisy. The founding fathers, as beautiful yet tragicomic as their vision for America was itself, would be turning in their graves if they could see the utter disregard that lawmakers have shown for the Constitution and the recent damage that has been inflicted upon the republic via the Patriot Act, the Fisa Amendments Act and the National Defense Authorization Act.

I declare that we must become not only a more educated but a better educated society before it's too late. It's time that we turn off the television, read more books and learn to properly assess the information that we are being exposed to. We have a new generation of students that are only being taught by the television and the internet because our public schools have failed them but there comes a time when we must unplug, if only for a little while. We have to go through periods of "technological celibacy" to keep ourselves grounded and to maintain and protect our most valued human qualities. We have to stop allowing ourselves to be spoon fed information and start questioning our environment relentlessly. We must rid ourselves of unconstitutional politics and the institutions that we presently advocate, knowingly or unknowingly, that are in violation of our civil liberties. If not, it shall be our undoing. We have to not only hold our government to a higher standard and demand more from it but we must also demand more of ourselves. We must learn the duties of our elected officials and hold them accountable for their congressional responsibility. We must unlearn what we've learned in the area of polity even down to the fundamentals of the way we govern. We must deprogram our minds and rid ourselves of the poor educational tools we've been handed to ensure failure and the perpetuation of our lack of knowledge and know how. Without at first an acknowledgement of our miseducation there cannot be the possibility of our re-education. After this and only after this can we go about improving the process of selecting those we choose to represent us in government.

Things are not as they seem. We are enveloped in a matrix of lies and deception and only through the power of activism and democratic questioning can we break free from the claws of corporate enslavement and political duplicity.

In conclusion, I'd just like to state for the record that when it comes to energy and economics I am no expert and would never claim to be. I only consider myself only an inquisitive observer. I understand completely that oil is a globally traded commodity but I also understand that we are living in a fearocracy which makes us all subject to any and every scam that the corporatists decide to pull without our consent and without any other choice but to comply. Now there may be a perfectly good reason why things are the way that they are and happen as they do but I highly doubt it. In my eyes it's nothing more or less than a play on the public. It's simply, incredibly complicated, unadulterated, politics.
