Carpe Diem

Eyes gleam through the glass
Watching me in my armchair
Catching the room light
Dragging me over there
To let in the winter cold
As I slid back the door
To let back in the eyes
But I am slow once more

And they have gone
To resume their mooching
Wander around the garden
Occasionally peering in
As if to check
And remind
I am under observation
By her kind

Found wanting
An evolutionary joke
Good for providing food
And the mandatory stroke
In time order will be restored
And they will remember our worth
In that long promised day
When the cats will rule this earth
