Your Silence Will Not Protect You

Inscribed to all of the activists and revolutionaries around the world. Your efforts are invaluable and your courage is unmatched. Thank You…

It has been stated that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. These are words that I believe with all my heart to be true. For what would have happened in America if the small minority of revolutionaries had kept quiet and not spoken out against the tyranny of King George? Where would we be as a nation without the civil rights movement, without the courage of those brave, young men and women that sacrificed their lives and reputations so that future generations could be free? What if they had chosen not to demonstrate, allowing racial hatred and bigotry to roll full steam into the 21st century? What if there had never been anyone to protest the wars of Europe? What if there was no resistance to the Vietnam War? What if there wasn't any protection against lawlessness and injustice? What if the world just stood idly by and let good be conquered by evil? What if we all just cowered in the face of despotism, gang violence and police brutality? What if there was no such thing as whistle blowing and government and corporate corruption were allowed to run amok? What if there was no opposition to geopolitical expansion? What if we just let our elected officials behave like dictators? What if everything was centered on the majority and there were no specific rights and protections for the individual? What if there was no such thing as the Bill of Rights? They say that ignorance is bliss and knowledge is sorrow. Though I understand the wording and the sentiment behind these phrases I couldn't disagree more. Ignorance is a dangerous weapon that if left unchecked will bring about complete and utter destruction but knowledge, although it can bring sorrow, is the foundation on which peace is built. No matter how much we close our eyes and ears to tyranny it will not simply disappear. It has to be driven out. It has to be exposed for the cancer that it is and each of us as individuals has to have the heart and the courage to face it. If something is going on in your community that you know is wrong, you cannot simply stand aside and remain quiet, waiting for someone else to correct it, especially if it is a matter of civil importance or a matter concerning the public safety or the public welfare. If someone says something you disagree with and you know that they are telling an outright lie and you choose to ignore it then their crime is no greater than your own. I believe that we all have a moral obligation to advance truth and the cause of freedom, whatever the risk, whatever the cost. That means doing what we have to do in order to protect our families, our property, our reputations and even those that may be weaker or less fortunate than us. It also includes standing up to oppression and fighting injustice because as Dr. King once said "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." What if our predecessors, our heroes and heroines of history had done nothing? Would that have saved them? Would that have somehow shielded them from a terrible fate? I think not. It would have only exacerbated the issue and prolonged the inevitable. Plugging our ears, locking our doors and closing the curtains is not the way that these problems are going to get solved. We have to have a serious debate about our current path and where we feel our society is headed. We have to agree to stand up to things like the Patriot Act and illegal wiretapping and make more of a fuss about the drone program and killer robots. We have to call into question the government's silence concerning secret operations that have been recently uncovered, its participation with corporations in social engineering, its crimes against humanity and its plot against anti-big government groups and other lawful organizations that just so happen to disagree or have a different opinion. We have to let them know that they will be exposed and they will be held accountable. Silence is a virtue but it can also be a tragedy. Unplug your ears. Listen close. Speak now or forever remain silent.

*A small minority revolts and creates a movement which subsequently brings about positive change that in turn benefits the larger majority that usually refuses to speak or get involved.
