My how fast time passes
Loyalists lads and lasses
Seems only yesterday
In Belfast far away
Dandy did not have a side you see
It was ancestral castles a visit we be
Quite accidental you see
We knew nothing of an annual orange parade
Not in the itinerary displayed
The band was in the road police standing by
At the corner we waved on not knowing why
The band started playing
The marchers to and fro were swaying
And down the street we lead the parade
At the end of the day fighting and bombing did fade
**Quite interesting without attempting poetry the rest
of the story. Last year we were in Ireland to visit
the country and find the family Castle in Limerick,Ireland.
It was the trip of a lifetime and yes we did find the Castle.
My site picture is of the kids standing in front of the Ballynahitch
castle. But our own Castle the ballydonnellan Castle was in
more ruined condition. But it was still in places standing.
I was as a baby baptized Irish Catholic, my grandson
baptized in St Patrick Cathedral. That said we have no allegiance
to Irish religious politics. We had never heard of the Orange
parade. Surely not that July 12 was a special day. We were just
American tourists at the end of our vacation. In a rented car we rose
up a hill and were stopped by Policeman in riot gear.Maybe it was my
Granddaughter Wazzu flag. A band
was on the corner and it seemed a parade was about to start. We
were the last car waved on. The band started up behind us. It was
amazing the marching band was following us down the road. Suddenly
there was a barricade. We turned up an alley and got out of there.
Next day we read the paper. The fighting the riots. Catholic rioters
angry because the Orange Marchers had come to their end of the city.
We wondered how much of that was the lead car. In the paper we read
Catholic Irish hooligans were said to be responsible for the riot.
Injuries to several policeman. So how interesting this morning I read
this year violence flares as Orange Order demands right to march in
Catholic area. With swords and sticks attacking police and several injuries.
I had nothing to do with it this year. Seems an annual thing to fight
and fuss over control of territory. I do side with those being imposed
upon though. It seemed the parade was more a vanity show of force unlike
the parades at home with children lining the street and cotton candy.
Take your parade past all those homes with British and Scottish flags in front.
I added this it didn't seem political enough. I am not into the continence of
waring just the continence of peaceful getting along in this world.
