The Chastisement

I don’t drink and I don’t smoke…
From these habits I am free.
I don’t have tattoos or piercings…
Hey, Lord Jesus, look at me!"

Am I not the model Christian??
I am nothing like the world!!
Can’t you see that I am separate?
Swine won’t see me cast my pearl!!

It’s just me and my church members…
Our pretty little pious group.
We eat and drink and fellowship…
Won’t let no flies fall in our soup.

Who?? That dirty ugly drunkard?
That wayward woman of the night?
O, I could never speak to such!
No, Lord, you simply can’t be right!

Did you not say we were light?
Did you not say we were salt?
These dingy people are in darkness
And unseasoned to a fault.

We don’t want their kind around us
We can’t take such losers in.
They might rub off on our children
Can't have our youngsters around sin.

What’s that?? Please, Lord, I am not prideful…
I just don’t want to deal with this.
These are playmates of the devil…
People whom the demons kiss.

What?? You’ve focused on my failure??
I have not displayed Your love??
You’re wanting me to witness
To these I've wanted no part of???

But…but……!! Okay, okay, I hear You…
Lord, please turn Your volume down.
I am sorry…I’ve been stupid.
O, please don't remove my crown.

I repent, Lord, I'm repenting
Please allow me a new start.
I'll be different...Lord, I promise
Create in me a caring heart.

O, of course, I will invite them
And I will tell them about You.
Lord, I really, really love You...
Love that You chastised me, too.

~~Dedicated To Teresa and Danna~~
(Jesus loves you)

~~Author's Note~~
Although this poem is fictional or allegorical
and does not relate to me or anyone I know,
I've heard of the haughty, holier-than-thou
Christian who looks down on the sinner rather
than to try to lift him up. God is the ONLY ONE
seated high enough to look down on anyone!
God is a loving Father and will chastise anyone
who does not respond to others in love.

Deuteronomy 8:5

Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines
his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.

Psalm 94:12
12 Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord,
the one you teach from your law

1 Corinthians 11:32
Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way
the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will
not be finally condemned with the world.

Revelation 3:19
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be
earnest and repent.

John 13:35
By this all people will know that you
are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
