Close to another Anniversary
Who would have believed 53 years?
I used to say one of them was happy
She has been the best thing to ever happen to me
My Granddaughter said it best, I don't want
to be like Grandma I want to be Grandma!"
What makes Grandma so special?
She has always thought of others above herself
When I first started seeing her I had a girlfriend
I thought her so vain I would learn differently
She would look at other girls and point out beauty in all
Most of the male dorms wanting her as Queen on looks alone
The overweight special needs student working the milk machine
Most girls walked right by him trying to avoid
She would make his day just visiting with him
My thought--what is this chick running for office?
I have posted some of this on other writes
Just to say my grades needed some boasting
I had a room overlooking the walkway to the swimming pool
Everyday this girl and her two friends walked by
The Flamingos on my record player, "I only have eyes for you."
Not knowing that I was not the only loving that recording
My classmates sat in their windows whistling and making crude remarks
One day the girls smiled and said "Hi Dandy!"
I was surprised they knew my name but just part of the vanity
"Only You--"the Platters, I was suffering a breakup
I thought how vain she could avoid all these going different paths
One day it was snowing the silent kind still as night
I saw one of the three girls standing helplessly in the road
I had no idea tell then one of the three girls was blind
She was using my music and my room to count her steps
She immediately called, "Help me Dandy I can't find my steps"
Amazed she knew my name. Used my music each day to guide her
She told me how my future bride guided her to class
And then went to the pool and helped special needs kids swim
Until one day she knew them well enough to go alone
The best though was the boy who helped giving out milk
There was a dorm dance the way to meet the girls put a earring in bowl
The boy would match his earring with the girl wearing the other pair
One of the girls put hers in her purse saying no way
She was not going to get caught dancing with the Milk boy
The boy had near tears in his eyes searching for the girl with his earring
The catch of the dance took her earring off and Said, "Sorry Billy
I must have misplaced the other earring." It made his whole day.
And reality was it was only one dance to start the meetings
I probably would not have noticed but I had her other earring
The blind girl walked up and said, "Isn't she special?"
Blind in sight she could read my thoughts
I had no idea as they walked by she thought me special
Who would have thought at the time she would be for me?
Oh, and Rose, She met a boy with partial sight and they married
We met them one day after college he in a wheelchair both happy
She reminded me how much I only have eyes for you meant to her
