I hereby give up my right to remain silent
On police brutality and urban violence
Knowing that anything I say can and will be used against me
What difference does it make?
It's the same conclusion whether I do or do not speak
There's a new sheriff in town
And his name's Stand Your Ground
His orders are unsound
Just gun the man down
It's been issued by order of the judge to not budge
No need to worry mind you
You've got the power of the law behind you
I thought I'd heard it all but must say this is unheard of
Because now you've got the state endorsing murder
Streets filled with madness, Hired guns with badges
Using our sons for target practice
Murderous bastards, gruesome and foul
Shooting a child execution style
Lying face down lined in chalk
Then they turn around and let the guilty walk
With their only excuse is that he reached
A confused youth trying to show his ID
You know the story
Cops going out in a blaze of gory
A kid shot dead in the head unarmed
And now they're asking us to remain calm
Instead of attacking poverty
They attack the poor
An act to keep us impoverished that's for sure
Masking their evil deeds in the name of good
Harassing me in my neighborhood
Like we're all running the streets packing guns making crack sales
A bunch of trigger happy police misunderstanding black males
It even happens outside of America far away from home
Just ask Cathy L. Schneider and Malcolm D. Holmes
Read Police Power and Race Riots and Race and Police Brutality
And you'll get a good look at my people's reality
Of ceaseless fatalities and though we rally the proof is
That no one cares because sadly the truth is
There's a new sheriff in town
And his name's Stand Your Ground
His orders are unsound
Just gun the man down…
