'The Great Abyss'

I think at times I go insane
From all that preys upon my brain,
It stalls the heart within my chest,
Leaves me weary with no chance of rest.

<><><><><>

It matters not how much I fight
Or stand my ground, or flee in fright,
For it is there on my return,
To take me down and make me burn.

<><><><><>

It laughs at me as it slams the gate
Or mocks my plight, while it seals my fate,
But I accept it all in kind,
To keep from being left behind.

<><><><><>

It strips me bare, while others stare
At the mess I've made before them,
They applaud my pain, they feel no shame,
For I broke the rules within their game.

<><><><><>

How can my ruptured soul go on
When no-one cares, and hope is gone,
Yet I'll rise up, refuse to bleed,
As I nurture life from stagnate seeds.

<><><><><>

But in the end I'm left alone
For someone else adorns my throne,
And I will find I'm set adrift,
To search once more in the great abyss.

~ The great abyss, a metaphor for life, it is out there, for each and every one of us.
It can be confusing, sometimes making no sense whatsoever, often times downright scary.
The unsettling factor, at least to me, is the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Will I
find love, happiness, or simply peace? I would hope to think I will find all three, but
I know that life is a gamble, a mystery, and in many ways, exciting, and even though the
words in this poem might make one think otherwise, I would hope each of you can share
my thoughts, and strive toward your choosing. ~ R.B.
