Gray Area
 
Lesson one from king Rehoboam, son king of Solomon
Seeking wisdom on how to get his subjects to follow him
They came to him with their concerns and request
So he went to find council on which way was best
First to his father’s advisors, experienced and wise
Then to his friends youthful unexperienced guys
Instead of honoring the experience that paved a way
He took heed to what his young friends had to say
That mistake came at a very great cost
He turned his back on wisdom and his kingdom was lost
He didn’t honor what wisdom through experience will do
Because of that the kingdom of Israel was split in two
Gray hair is a crown of glory that is gained by a righteous life
Listen as an old man tells his story of how he conquered strive
Paul instructs the old to counsel the young
To give their testimony of how far they have come
Wisdom is gained by the rod and reproof
Hard lessons that we learned in the days of youth
We have people God has place in our lives
To teach man how to treat their children and wives
Train the young women Titus instructs the order
Take the burden of the training upon your shoulders
All through the bible, old and new testament
We learn that our elders are heaven sent
Elders who rule should be considered worthy of double honor
We should show honor our mothers and our father
Somehow we have come to disregard gray hair
Label them judgmental and call them unfair
We run with itchy ears to hear that latest talk
And let the world instruct the church in the way to walk
But if we pay attention to what the bible has to say
We would esteem more highly the walk of the gray
Those who walked before you, consider with care
That you yourself may one day be there
Think about experience and evaluate its worth
Especially if you hope to life long on this earth
The for commandment with promise, Dueteronomy 5:16
Remember honor is not just spoken, but seen
