Poem By Shannon Walker (Like it, hate it, whichever makes you happy).
I'm beginning to understand why I don't bother with anyone anymore.
I understand how easily it was for them to give up on me because I have finally been taught by them how to give up on them as easily as they did me.
I understand that loyalty isn't something I was ever meant to be worthy of.
I understand that its something you learn by watching others.
I understand that people care more about their reputation among their peers than showing people like me any sort of public acknowledgement.
I understand that people pretend people like me do not exist or wish we didn't.
I understand that I can be brushed off as if I am not there. You taught me well.
I understand the world is revolving around you only. You have shown me time and time again I do not matter compared to you.
I understand you talk down about me to your friends who do not like me and question my existence in your life. And that is okay, I expect it. I understand.
But, does this stop me from living?
No, for you have taught me well how to survive and talk to myself about what matters to me. Staying alive! THAT is what gets me through.
I have ways to vent now that does not include you nor can you stop me or silence me.
I understand you call me crazy, drama queen, psycho, bitch etc....Does this stop me from living?
No, for you have no power over me because I understand.
