A Mystery in Autumn - haibun By aldo kraas, www.PoetryPoem.com/poet11586 Unlock all Features - Upgrade to Poetry Prime
I am walking on eggshells. Each step I take, I feel something crackle under my foot, Autumn is coming to a close. The silence of the night does not add to my self confidence. I just keep hoping I'll reach her cottage without any untoward incident.
the shrill hoot
of an owl in the distance -
my nerves freeze
Yet I continue undeterred. This is one of the bravest trips I have ever made. I am not usually the adventurous kind, but when I hear that my aged Aunt living alone in the next village is ill, I cannot sit still. There is no one else athome that evening so I decide to undertake to visit her on foot. My eight year old legs are very strong.
the moon peeps out
from behind the mass of clouds -
I switch off my torch
