Though married 54 years
On a November day we married
It was Valentines day we met
I was much in love--with another girl
About to propose the ring in my pocket
The big surprise a day before Valentines day,
she said,"We are much too young to be serious."
And added, "We should date others."
I was crushed next day Valentine's day
I had bought her her favorite stuffed pig
Had a dozen and a half roses waiting
The largest heart valentine chocolates
Downpayment on a ring she would pick out
A girl walking by said to me
"You don't know her like we do.
You are just one of the boys on her dorm wall
You are much too good for her.
I heard her saying you are taking me to the concert."
Sandy knew both of us I was friends with her and her boyfriend
She assured me Bob knew and approved
I said no you know she and I have gone together--!
She insisted Jane had promised we see others
Was advertizing she and I had broken up
At the concert Jane was sitting on the lead singer's lap
"Louie Louie louie Lila" No not the Kingsman
The next day I was near crying but wanted to make up
I ran into the girl her words, "You didn't learn a thing."
It was instantaneous, "Yes I did! These roses are for you."
I still had the stuffed pig and the huge box of chocolates
There was a beautiful girl far more pretty than Jane
Sitting at the sign up desk and she knew our relationship
"For Jane?" "No for you I think the pig is for her
and I forgot Jane asked my future wife to coffee. We were to see
others, the shades came off, Jane would stare at me
Word had spread her night as a groupie and her lies
and I would sing, "Louie Louie loiu lo let you be the one to cry."
She would brag to her girlfriends how many boys she was leading on
How being with me was cramping her style with football players
Who were jealous of me from the school tramp to a girl all of them
coveted as the best looking girl on campus and the girls looked up too,
