'Your First One in Heaven'

The first Mother's Day without you, Mom,
It feels so strange to say that,
But stranger still, is why I feel
The need to stand, and look back.

*****

The years, now gone, endured their storms,
They even brought their heartaches,
But through them all you stood strong, and fast,
You never let your guard down.

*****

Protection was your strongest suit,
You fought for all my needs,
And many times you went without,
So I could plant new seeds.

*****

You taught me well; you made me strong,
That gift I can never repay,
But I'd give it all, for one more chance,
To hold you close this day.

****

So Happy Mother's Day, Mom, on your first one in Heaven,
I hope you enjoy your day,
Celebrate with Dad, your mother, too,
And never forget, that I love you.

~ This poem needs no footnote; the words describe it all.
But through release of words, release of feelings happen also.
This is the first Mother's Day without my mother. Like so many
'firsts' that follow the passing of someone so extremely dear,
they are difficult to cope with. But I am doing my best, and it
is through expressing myself in this manner, that I can continue
to cope. For all mothers out there, I hope you enjoy your special day. ~
