In the wake of Reconstruction its monuments still stand,
As a constant reminder to the colored man.
Centuries of repression, a nation held back
Desperately trying to reassemble what was once in tact.
Flattening the hills and straightening the curves,
Fighting for the freedom that we so justly deserve.
While an army of Confederates still unite steadfast,
Beneath the stars and stripes of the Dixie Flag.
Reminding us of a time when freed men all lived in fright,
As fiery red crosses burned in the night.
These were Christian extremists, masked marauders, glorified jerks,
Committing the ultimate sin calling it God's work.
And today many symbols from that era still exist.
There are monuments still erected in their name.
Celebrated with hubris and done so without shame.
It was in many respects as it is to this very day,
government sponsored terror backed by men in high places with the sole purpose and intent of keeping those at the bottom, permanently at the bottom.
The Red Shirts, The Crescent City White League, The KKK.This was the Devil. This was the Boogeyman. Long before there was an ISIS. Long before their was an Al Qaeda. These were some of the most feared terrorists the world has ever produced.
In our beloved country this was the norm. Home grown domestic terrorism in rare form.
