Was I Reflected

in the beginning
was there darkness

or was there an illumination
an intelligence
of some kind
lurking within my mind

was it
a spark of the divine
reason of a small kind
(wouldn't that be a perk)

I thought I knew you
or my heart thought
it did
or was that a trick

I was just a kid
who might not have known
what love was

had I ever experienced it
and  what was it like

a lightning strike
or my chest on fire
the quickening of electrons in my nerves
an itching of my imagination
could I feel inspired

does a tangle, the brain weave
and  perhaps, does it deceive
who knows what love is or was

was it there within the evening stars
within the memory created under a glowing moon
building electrical impulses
with me heading towards a swoon

but if I hadn't known love
how then
could I recognize it

wasn't there a small glimpse then
in the sparkling glint
that was within your sighs
and the surprise
equally reflected within
my returning smile...

sometimes still I try to recall
this moment and
how I was reflected within
your warming eyes.

Remembered, remember that long gone night
in frozen February, still here now in November.
