Madrigal Singer

Madrigal Singer.

They said it was time,
He really didn't care
So he twisted his tie
Uncombed his hair
But they'd got it wrong
As their clock was slow
And as he walked out
They were starting to go.
In fact their exit
Was almost complete
So he stood and sang
To near empty seats.

He needn't have bothered
For nobody cared
And pretty soon
Nobody was there.
He really didn't
Stand a chance
Very few even
Giving him a glance.
Packing his bags
He didn't linger
Took up career as
A Madrigal singer.

He really feels
His life complete
As he busks his way
From street to street.
With uncombed hair
And twisted tie
He roams the world
As time slips by.
He might  have been famous
But we'll never know
And it's all because
Their clock was slow.
