Father,
Do not blame the others
It was I who let the demons in
I invited them to supper
While I listened to their stories
And danced to their songs
Not knowing how long
This journey would go on—
Only the innocence of youth
Kept me standing
As so many
Succumbed
And fell
 


I found this poem in an old journal from 2006…
It still speaks to me.  This is not a re-write.
