 ramblings and things

Resting On Arms Reversed
The solitary figure stands
Barrel on left foot, butt held
By fingers interlaced hands.
Behind him the inscription read

Nineteen Fourteen to nineteen,
An unusual inscription
The first I’ve ever seen.

The fighting finished in eighteen
The treaty signed June next year
So in truth it’s correct
For those dates to appear.
I wonder, do those who died
From wounds received
Between ceasefire and treaty
Appear as war deceased.

Are they on the memorials
Is their sacrifice known
Did they get their recognition
Are their names shown.
On the memoral in Llandovery
Maybe they all do
I didnt think to check so
I dont know if it’s true.

All those who fell in that
Terrible remorseless war
Should be remembered
With respect for evermore.
Barrel on left foot, butt held
By fingers interlaced hands,
Resting On Arms Reversed
The solitary figure stands.
