Poems of the Pandemic (1)

The worst of cataclysms, a land still plagued by old systems of fear and racial intimidation. A troubled nation in the throes of disunity and devastation, fighting to decide whether it will be United, or if it will descend into chaos and be forever divided. A beacon of light and a symbol of hope now staring down the barrel of its own demise, fighting its own demons, facing its own fears and failures, desperately trying to save itself, from itself. But there are those of us that have always remained steadfast, that have always remained diligent and hopeful , who even in the midst of our darkest hour, look toward the future and see it clearer, knowing all along that our nation needed to step back and take a good look in the mirror. And now once again, here we are, standing at the crossroads; At the crossroads of Political Indifference and Political Involvement; At the crossroads of Justice and Injustice; Equality and Inequality. And as we stand at the crossroads we must ask ourselves, are we prepared to look inward and see what it's going to take to heal our brokenness? Are we prepared to admit the intransigence of our 2 party political system? Are we equipped with what it's going to require to fix the hateful rhetoric and the uncivil discourse that has led to hyper partisanship and civil unrest? Are we ready to peel back the layers of systemic racism and deal with what lies beneath or will we continue to do everything that is antithetical to real, positive change? Are we ready to accept the stigma of a Failed Democracy if we continue to act undemocratically? Will we ever understand that America can be both a proud nation, proud of its history and a nation willing to accept the history of its iniquity? That in order to be one nation, under God and indivisible that there cannot be only Justice for some but there has to be literally Justice for All? Justice for a stranger. Justice for your neighbor. Not just Justice for a favor. Not just Justice on paper. Not just Justice on paper.  Not just Justice on paper because justice on paper is just that, leaving Just Us. Will we continue spiraling down this wayward path of definite destruction or will we chart a new course that allows us to be restored to a glimmering land of hope and endless opportunity? Will we falter and miss the mark once again or will We the People finally make all the necessary sacrifices it's going to take to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice and insure Domestic Tranquility? On what side of history will you stand? What will you choose? Choose...
