Sky Woman

Remember ending the youngest of days,
when she showered in nearly naked wall to wall sunlight.
Those nights always dressed her in black.

You knew she had combed with lightening
and tied borrowed moonlight throughout her hair.
She laughed at the devil, as he beat his wife.

She stayed in sight, when she outran
stars to the horizon. There she promised
to wait with you for a lazy dawn.

She reclined under an ever-growing blanket of sky
woven stripes of tangerine, hot pink and baby blue.
Never separated by land. We are connected by water.

Navajo kisses found new brown skin, ignited her eyes.
Angels and ancestors sang, told you to stay in the dance.
Push out your hands, hold on tight, never let Sky-Woman go.
