By this we know that we abide,
Because He gave us His Spirit;
And our faith has been applied,
By showing through our merit.
For we have seen and testify,
The Father looks on us with favor;
When we not ever would deny,
His Son being our Savior.
To confess Jesus as the Son,
The Father will abide in you;
For He as the Anointed One,
A sincerity that is true.
We have come to know and believe,
Of the loves the God has for us;
And for salvation we receive,
Shining in His glory as thus.
Herein is a love made perfect,
So that we may have confidence;
The Day of Judgement would reject,
Those without a righteous defense.
For there is never fear in love,
Because perfect love casts out fear;
With no punishment from thereof,
Knowing that Jesus Christ is near.
We love because He first loved us,
To love God but hate your brother;
You make God a liar as thus,
To love God and hate another.
He that loves his brother loves God,
Though the love of God is unseen;
But while you honor and laud,
Love of brother also has been.
