I was appointed a teacher,
Which is why I suffer as I do,
Poetic form as a preacher,
In preaching the Gospel to you.
But I will be never ashamed,
For I know whom I have believed;
And convinced what I have proclaimed,
Your wicked state has been relieved.
You can keep watch until that day,
What has been entrusted to me;
As long as you trust and obey,
You are given insight to see.
Follow the form of the sound Word,
In the faith and love of the Lord;
What Christ has said, and you have heard,
That it shall never be ignored.
The Holy Spirit dwells in us,
Guard what is entrusted to you;
A deposit given as thus,
Helps to be able to construe.
For you know who has turned away,
May God have mercy on their soul;
That they will stop going astray,
So His Spirit be in control.
May the Lord grant mercy and grace,
Who refreshed me and not ashamed;
To let God comfort and embrace,
Urge on as His Word is proclaimed.
May the Lord grant them to find grace,
From our Lord upon that Day;
The service rendered in this place,
To learn how to trust and obey.
