Selected Poems

When it stinks, stay

She rubs her fragrance upon you
cat-walks the table of a fine China shoppe
She pushes your buttons, limits and the envelope.
She is closer to the edge, paws at certain disaster.

She spreads her scent into you
bull-dances on a hot corrugated tin roof.
She is wild wobble unstable, bent kneed and half hooved
She curls the ceiling, above, loud to near collapse.

Despite every omen, you stay.
You close your eyes, so
you can smell, more deeply.
You breathe out and hope.
