Wildfire

Today, the sun became a single cigarette burn.
A circle against a pallor mortis of neglected sky.

Kilometers away, my spent childhood burns.
Youth spirals into sparks with the pine straw.

Fire fingerpaints spires in unsacred smoke.
Everyone here complains about breathing air.

Tenants take up residence in place of my past.
A new regime will mop up soot with my tears
sweep away my memories with ash and dust.

Out of my control, the acts of this angry God?
Back home is burning and no one here cares.
