The tongue is a blazing fire,
In a world of unrighteousness;
And knowing the heart’s desire,
For ignoring the consciousness.
The tongue set amongst your members,
Sets course for an entire life;
Leaving many burning embers,
Which is able to cause you strife.
For every kind of beast and bird,
Of reptiles and sea creatures;
Has been subdued when God is heard,
The way that the Lord enraptures.
No human can subdue the tongue,
It is full of restless evil;
Deadly poison that will be flung,
That is controlled by the devil.
With it, we will bless our Lord,
But we will also curse people;
So many times we have ignored,
What is stated in the Gospel.
This matter should never be so,
From a mouth that says a blessing;
That animosity will grow,
Aggravated to cause cursing.
A spring is never flowing out,
Of both as fresh and saltwater;
From a mountain without a doubt,
And will not be sweet or bitter.
Can a fig tree produce olives,
Or a grapevine that will grow figs;
No confession, does God forgive,
Neither would dogs be birthing pigs.
