That Old Covered Bridge

That magnificent old covered bridge,
stood as a noble expression of yesteryear.
Reminding all, who crossed her strong oak
trestles and  tiers, of  many happy moment
frozen forever in time from their childhood
years.

Flat creek flowed far below, into
the old childhood swimming hole.
During warm summer days and
cool summer nights…Ah!
secrets forever out of sight!

Rope swing…
laughter, yelling, splashing and
skinny dipping galore.
Friendships and memories that
would last for over a half
century and more.

From the echoes of our minds,
those childhood memories
will always be sublime.

Even though mindless vandals
torched that majestic old covered
bridge long before the writing of
this insignificant little rhyme...
and broke our hearts for all time.
