Ignore Me At Your Peril.

I dedicate this poem to my son Clint to whom this happened just over one year ago. Everything I say is on his behalf, and he is the bravest lad in the world. He will be opening a page with this poem on the front, because he wants to help others, young and old to realise the importance of self-examination. I must say as a mother it almost broke my heart, but he is well so far, so I count my blessings.

Dear male population
Working man and earl
Here is my declaration
Ignore me at your peril.

One day I noticed blithely
One testicle was swollen
I treated it so lightly
So what it can`t be stolen.

It got bigger day by day
Yet still I did not tell
Didn`t know the price I`d pay
I was feeling well.

Ah! sweet youth, how innocent
How stupid you can be
So you just ignore the scent
Of cancer you can`t see.

One day I told my mother
She said you foolish lad
Then I told my brother
And he told my dad.

Straight up to the casualty
They were not mistaken
Whipped me in - emergency
Tests were quickly taken.

I was foolish did not hear
My body tell me truth
Now I live my life in fear
I may just lose my youth.

Radiotherapy - feel so low
How cocky was I then
One testicle just had to go
Now I just pray my friend.

Do not be a fool like me
Don`t look ahead in fear
If from cancer you`d be free
Check daily year by year.

Please all listen to me now
Don`t think it can not be
Cancer is not fussy how
It could hit you, you see.

If you would escape my end
Whatever is your age
Then listen to me now my friend
Before you turn this page.
