WHEN DAYS WERE GOLDEN AND NIGHTS WERE LONG

We could touch each other across a crowded room
Not by the grasping of hands
Nor the entwining of fingertips
But by the meeting of our eyes.

Giggle like children in the Rain
Until the stars illuminated the way
For finding each other in the hours
In the dark.

We would dream the dreams of lovers and love
Knowingly nodding between the two of us
That something this perfect would last forever
That we were the only two alive on a desert island
A magic all unto ourselves.
When days were golden and nights were long
Somewhere along the way we found out
That the warmth of the Sun can burn and hurt.
The Rain can leave you wet and cold with tears.
The nights are much too long
When clouds hide the stars from view
Until one day, we stopped seeing each other
At all.
