FROM BIRTH UNTIL I HAD TO DIE
FOR AS A BUTTERFLY ON THE WING
MY SOUL DID SOAR AND HEART DID SING.
THEN CAME THE THOUGHT AS I FLITTED AROUND
WISDOM TO ME YET MOST PROFOUND
THIS POLLEN DUST IN MY EYE
REMINDED ME I WAS ONLY A BUTTERFLY.
SO IN ONE DAY 1000 YEARS I KNEW
AS IN ASTOUNDING LOFTY FLIGHT I FLEW
LIGHTER ON THE AIR AS ANY BIRD ON WING
I SLIPPED THE IMPRISONING STRANDS OF EARTH
AND I BECAME A MARVELOUS THING.
