Deepest Fear

What is your deepest fear?
Do you fear the pain of loneliness?
Waiting for someone to call!
Do you fear to be alone?

No one to pick you up when you fall,
No one to speak to or share your thoughts!
An empty house,
An empty bed!

Left alone and lonely to be caught,
Dependent on someone else's charity!
Unable to speak, not able to move,
Mind gone, no clarity!

Victim of a stroke left you useless of limb,
Abandoned by family, but especially him!
Do you fear he'll leave?
Not able to face the daily life of caring for…
A useless wasted lump of a wife!

You're no longer youthful your beauty has gone,
But then, you were struck by a final blow.
Decrepit, your body heavy and slack,
Would it surprise you if he didn't come back?

What is it that would hurt the most?
Is it the loss of his love?
Perhaps that is the reason why…
None of should really try…
To hold onto anything in this life!

Because often the thing we fear most,
Is the one thing that we will lose?
So perhaps that is the reason why I hold…
Him at arm's length, then I don't have to be told,
That I'm useless and he no longer wants to be round!

I am in control,
I am the one who pulls the strings.
Only I can give him permission, he can go only…
When I tell him to spread his wings
