STRANGER IN MY DREAMS

SultryRose's Signatures

He lies just beyond my vision
At the edge of my sight
I can only ever behold him
In the dreams of the night

He is there as a shadow
An outline on the optic nerve
A familiarity of whom I know
A fleeting glimpse in shadows merge

A vagueness of clarity
Never quite there for me to see
He crosses the lines of perversity
For real he can never be

Yet I know his face
The softness of his smile
Every line of his skin I can trace
Yet I have never seen him

I know the texture of his hair
Curling and black as the night
He comes when my dreams are laid bare
But ever just beyond my sight

Yet I know his eyes, a darkest golden-green
The gentle whisper of his breath also I know
But only on the edge of between
Does his presence show

Ever he remains elusive
Always just beyond my touch
Only in my dreams does he live
And I yearn to be with him so much

Yet I can feel his presence
The warmth of his love encircling me
I know his peace, I feel him with a sixth sense
Yet who is he?

Only a glimpse do I ever perceive
A lock of hair, upturned smile of his lips
So how can I believe
If I cannot touch with outstretched fingertips

He is part of my dreams
A reality during my night
Yet I am not to know him it would seen
Because he remains just outside my sight

My time with him is so precious
Happiness beyond words to express
All I know of him is purity of spirit
That on awakening I painfully miss

My soul cries out to be with him
To be held within arms again
To feel the softness of his skin
My waking time is just not the same

My spirit is in mourning
When daylight comes and I am alone
Bereft and cut adrift, yearning
My heart a cold and empty stone

Why am I not allowed to see
Who he is in reality
Only sensing the spirit's pureness
Which comforts me in daylight loneliness
