POETRY IN MOTION
The Still of Night
The still of night
In the still of night
I turn out the light
And always say a quick prayer.
I don't know who to
It's just something I do
In case there's somebody there.
And I've hoped through the years
There's someone who hears
But often had reason to doubt
Though I live in the hope
That they'll throw me a rope
When I'm down and I need pulling out.
And I think when I do
Of friends old and new
And give them a mention as well,
So, if "they" keep a book,
When they have a quick look
Whoever's in need they can tell.
In the still of last night
I turned out the light
And went through my usual tryst
And before I was through
I told them that you
Should be right at the top of the list.
