As though I was surrounded
By a cloak of invisibility
Placed there

Because I don't look
Or act
The way you think I should
Or expect of me
To satisfy the selfish whims
Of your own existence.
Hear me
Taste me
Know me.
Listen to what my heart
Has to say
While you revel
In the bitterness
Of the salt from my tears
Dripped upon your fingertips
As you pushed
Me away
Into that little corner
Of the time and space
Within your head
Reserved for things
Better left out of sight
Out of mind.
Stop
Cease
Desist
All of your attempts
To prove that
Your perception of my significance
In the grand scheme
Of the insanity
Of your universe
Is limited to dissolving
Me
And what I have to say
Down to
Minute particles of atoms and molecules
All of whom
Make but a scarce ripple
In the seas of time.
I can
I will
I shall
Accept nothing less
Than acknowledgment
That what I do say
Has importance
Simply by the sheer fact
That I am here.
I exist
A child of God
Whose Soul and Spirit
Refuses to be defeated
Into submission
By one whose own Soul and Spirit
Hasn't found its way
To genuine peace
And because
Most of all
I matter.
