MOTHER GOOSED
Pondering the preposterous
Predicaments
Of my life's story
I have come to the conclusion
Of the illusion
That real life remotely resembles
A fairy tale
Especially since
Prince Charming is off in the neighborhood
Liquor Store
And Cinderella has definitely
Left the castle.
Anyway...
Occurring to me occasionally
In outbursts of hmmmmmmm.....
I am beginning to think that
Maybe everything
And anything
We needed to know about
The bowl of cherries, the pits
And the sometimes pile of strudel
We step in every so often
Without looking
In the daze to "Days of Our Lives" drama
Of Existing
We really did learn
In Kindergarten.
Think about it...
Utterly up to our underarms
In Mother Goose, Hans Christian Anderson
Brothers Grimm
(How apropos is that?)
With Dr. Seuss thrown in
For balance
We get strategically submerged
In subversive and successive
Shenanigans
Of trolls and giants
Who want to rule the world
Or eat you alive if you cross
Into their territory.
Of witches and wicked stepmothers
All of whom abound aplenty
Just ask any ex-husband, ex-wife, ex-inlaw
Or any kid with more parents
Than video games.
Then there's...
Big bad wolves
Doing unspeakable acts to little girls
Not to mention grandmothers.
Vain queens of all kinds
Reflected back
In this looking glass society
Poisoning those whom they think of
As competition.
And, of course, Sleeping Beauties
Who can't even take time
To smell the roses
Without being pricked into oblivion
By the thorns.
These are just the tip of the tuffett
Miss Muffet.
However...
Every so often
The Beast is tamed by Beauty.
Fat cats in hats
Eating green eggs and ham
Only serve splendidly
To make us laugh loud and long.
If we can laugh
We can sing that Song of Sixpence
Letting all that we are
Fly as high
As every blackbird
Fleeing freely from
Tribulation's pie.
